Marks Barfield Architects were appointed by Crossrail and the engineers Connell Mott McDonald to carry out a feasibility study for Ebbsfleet station situated 300 metres away from the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link Station.

The work involved liasing with landowners, local and statutory authorities, and other networks to ascertain the existing and the future potential development, and population needs of the local area. It also involved the integration of Crossrail with the existing community at Northfleet, the introduction of Fastrack, a new bus transportation initiative, and the effect of proposed car parking facilities that are forecast to grow from 5,000 spaces in 2006 to 12,000 in 2020.
