Battlebridge Basin

Location: Kings Cross, London

Client: London Buildings Ltd.

Sector: Bridges and Infrastructure

Cost: £14.4m

A dramatic new gateway building to Battlebridge Basin on the Regents Canal providing 20,000 sq ft of predominately B1/Office use with some residential and leisure facilities. The scheme includes the refurbishment of existing properties around the basin, to revitalise a run-down area of King's Cross. The centrepiece of the scheme is the Bridge Building, a flexible headquarters building spanning the basin. Planning permission was won by Marks Barfield on this sensitive site.

“…we enthusiastically applauded the whole concept, in particular the Bridge Building. This it felt would help to re-establish the basis’s industrial character.”
The Royal Fine Art Commission

“…as much urban sculpture as working environment, the projected Bridge Building is an expressively fluid arch of girded offices spanning Regent’s Canal… the overall effect seems to mix Brunel with Blade Runner, and the blurred boundaries between glass and water give the structure the ambiguity of a mirage.”
