The Building Hall of Fame

6.7.06

The Hall of Fame  is a celebration of the men and women who have done most to change the built environment for the greater good since 1966.

Organised by Building Magazine, we are delighted that Marks Barfield Architects have made it into the next top ten architects through the door.

See the Truth

8.9.05

On the 5th September, Marks Barfield Architects and the Building Centre Trust organised a pre-screening of Al Gore's compelling rallying cry on Global Warming - An Inconvenient Truth.  Followed by a live talk and discussion on the issues raised with Nicky Gavron, Deputy Mayor of London, and Rt Hon John Gummer on what we in general, and the construction industry in particular, can do about it.

The film eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore's personal history and life-long commitment to reversing the effects of global warming.

The event was hugely popular and we now hope that those who attended will spread the word about the film and the strong messages entailed.  John Gummer congratulated Julia Barfield and David Marks on organising the event, and expresses his views on the issues raised eloquently in his article in the Estates Gazette.

The Times Crème/DHL PA of the Year Award.

3.7.05

Celebrations soared in the Marks Barfield Architect’s office last month as Lucy Smallwood was announced as Runner Up  in this year’s The Times Crème/DHL PA of the Year Award.  The competition is an annual event with entries from hundreds of PAs across the UK.

Lucy joined the MBA team two years ago, and quickly became a key part of the friendly and creative organisation.  As well as supporting the two Directors, Julia and David, a major part of her role is managing the development, production and maintenance of the firm’s accredited quality management system. She also helps with the practice’s human resources issues, deals with press relations, and organises the office’s annual trips.

Everyone who has worked with Lucy, both colleagues and clients alike, felt that she was most worthy of the title.  As Leigh Jostins Finance Director and Head of HR said: “She types at supersonic speed and finds the information you need before you have finished telling her what it was you were looking for. She always looks the part: she’s smart yet colourful, and wears flowery skirts and bright cardigans. What does PA stand for? The Perfect Article — and that’s Lucy.”
